Massapequa resident Paul Defilippis, 32, walked into CVS on Magnolia Drive in North Massapequa at approximately 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22, police said. He proceeded to shop for two hours before attempting to rob the store while there was nearly two dozen people inside the store.
According to police, at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, Defilippis jumped over the pharmacy counter, stated that he had a gun - which was never displayed - and approached his female victim, 35, and demanded that she open the safe.
Police said that in fear for her safety, the store employee complied and Defilippis removed an undetermined amount of controlled substances before fleeing the store through a back door.
At the time of the robbery, there were approximately ten customers and ten employees in the store. No injuries were reported.
Defilippis was tracked down by police in front of a store on Ocean Avenue, where he became belligerent and refused to comply with officers’ verbal commands while resisting arrest.
After being taken into custody, Defilippis was arrested and charged with third-degree robbery and resisting arrest. While he was being processed, it is alleged that Defilippis became uncooperative and charged at a detective, causing a struggle to ensue, leading to an additional charge of obstructing governmental administration.
Defilippis was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, Dec. 23 in First District Court in Hempstead.
